  • Coming to Camelot, Sold
    36 x 24 inches
    watercolor on paper
"Coming to Camelot, is of my neighbor, Dot, who is skipping past ninety-five years old. Inspired by her expressive hands and white hair, the painting is a nod to the pageantry and spirit of aging. Does Dot actually play the flute? No, but she sure has the playful quality of music.” Mary Whyte

    20 x 15.5 inches
    watercolor on paper
"Marcus is a young man who agreed to pose for me for a class I was teaching in Georgia. It was a really cold winter day, and I asked him to keep his knit hat on while I painted him. I thought he looked like a poet, introspective, deep in thought." Mary Whyte
  • Moonlight
    29 x 21.75 inches inches
As a painter, I have had several models who have served as the inspiration for my work. Some of my models, whom I met by chance, like Dot, immediately captured my imagination. At age 95, the woman’s personality, long white hair, and pale skin created both an ethereal presence, as seen in the painting "Moonlight", as well as a spirit of joy, as seen in "Coming to Camelot". “I’ve painted Tesha’s story since she was a young girl on Johns Island, capturing her as she grew from a mother into a grandmother. A few years ago, she faced a cancer battle with impossible odds – and won. I am so moved to share this first work of her since her recovery; it’s a tribute to a dear friend and a true survivor.” Mary Whyte
